Why a pre-filter?
We generally recommend installing a pre-filter in front of every filter system (if you don't already have one). A pre-filter protects your filter system from dirt particles that could damage the filter material. Backwashable filters generally have lower follow-up costs, but they can only filter up to a certain filter strength. Fine filters can, as the name suggests, filter more finely, but with the disadvantage that the cartridges have to be changed regularly.
When filtering drinking water that complies with the Drinking Water Ordinance, it can generally be assumed that a domestic water filter is sufficient. Fine filters are required, for example, for well water or in front of industrial reverse osmosis systems.

No, a wastewater connection is not absolutely necessary. You can simply collect the water with a bucket when backwashing. However, if you decide on the automatic backwash system, the filter must be firmly connected to the wastewater.
