Our water softeners for single-family homes and small households are compact, economical, and affordable. The units are installed directly after the water meter, ensuring limescale-free water throughout the entire house. Our systems utilize the neutral exchange process. This proven method guarantees that the pH value of the water remains unaffected.
Which water softener do I need for my detached house?
Basically, for a single-family home, you have the choice between two system options: the option with one column (Basic) and the option with two water softener columns (Duplex).
The FILTRASOFT Basic model consists of a water softener column and operates extremely economically thanks to the Eco Inject System. Its affordable price makes it a worthwhile purchase even for smaller households. Our all-inclusive package includes the water softener, installation, connection kit, and a supply of salt.
Duplex water softeners are designed for larger households. A second softening column ensures a constant supply of soft water. Duplex water softeners are recommended if you frequently shower at night or need to fill an additional swimming pool.
How do I find the right water softener?
Once you've chosen one of the options mentioned above, you'll need to determine the system's capacity. This is similar to the capacity of a battery. When the battery is depleted, the system needs to recharge. In water softeners, this is called regeneration. The more water you use, the larger the capacity needs to be to prevent the system from constantly regenerating. To make your selection as easy as possible, you can use our capacity calculator .

What accessories do I need?
In addition to the water softener itself, a connection kit is recommended. This kit includes a connection fitting specifically designed for water softeners, which is installed in your existing plumbing. The water softener is connected to this fitting via two flexible hoses (also included in the kit). The connection fitting features a bypass function, allowing the water softener to be easily disconnected from the mains supply in case of a malfunction. Direct piping is strongly discouraged. The connection kit also includes a suitable wastewater hose, as your water softener will produce wastewater during regeneration. A water hardness test kit is also included.
Do I need to refill or replace anything during operation?
Our systems require special water softener salt to operate. This salt must be replenished regularly, and the system should never be operated without it. During regeneration, the salt is flushed into the system to recharge the ion exchange resin. Aside from the salt, there is no other regular need to replace or refill anything in the system; however, DIN standards recommend regular maintenance every 12 months.
Does the system require regular maintenance?
As already mentioned, DIN recommends carrying out maintenance at least every 12 months. This should be carried out by a professional, but in principle, it can also be done by the homeowner in a single-family home. During maintenance, the system is checked for functionality and leaks, disinfected, and cleaned.

Product: BASIC water softener
The resin cartridges in your Basic 40 softening system generally do not need to be replaced because they regenerate themselves. The regeneration of the resin is an automated process that takes place during the cleaning cycles of the system. Here are some details:
Regeneration process: During regeneration, the resin is flushed with a salt solution, which dissolves and removes the accumulated calcium and magnesium ions (which are responsible for water hardness) from the resin. This “renews” the resin and can be used effectively to soften water again.
Regular cleaning: This regeneration is carried out regularly, depending on the amount of water used and the hardness of the water. In a 4-person household with a water hardness of 20° dH, the system will regenerate more frequently to ensure efficiency.
No replacement necessary: As long as the system is properly maintained and the regenerating salt is topped up regularly, the resin cartridges do not need to be replaced. However, you should regularly inspect and maintain the system to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.
In summary, the resin cartridges in your Basic 40 system are maintained effectively by the built-in regeneration process and therefore do not require regular replacement.

It is best to let the salt empty until the water is visible.
Then refill and ideally not full to the brim so that there is not too much weight on the salt.
If you keep filling the container without waiting until you see the water at the bottom, clumps can occur.

According to the DIN standard, maintenance should be carried out by a specialist at least every 12 months to ensure optimal function and safety of the system.
However, our water softening systems are designed to be so reliable that many customers carry out regular checks themselves. As long as the system is working properly and no problems occur, there are no legal requirements that make maintenance mandatory. Nevertheless, we recommend checking the system regularly and calling in a specialist if necessary to ensure long-term safety and efficiency.
