The resin cartridges in your Basic 40 softening system generally do not need to be replaced because they regenerate themselves. The regeneration of the resin is an automated process that takes place during the cleaning cycles of the system. Here are some details:

  • Regeneration process: During regeneration, the resin is flushed with a salt solution, which dissolves and removes the accumulated calcium and magnesium ions (which are responsible for water hardness) from the resin. This “renews” the resin and can be used effectively to soften water again.

  • Regular cleaning: This regeneration is carried out regularly, depending on the amount of water used and the hardness of the water. In a 4-person household with a water hardness of 20° dH, the system will regenerate more frequently to ensure efficiency.

  • No replacement necessary: As long as the system is properly maintained and the regenerating salt is topped up regularly, the resin cartridges do not need to be replaced. However, you should regularly inspect and maintain the system to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.

  • In summary, the resin cartridges in your Basic 40 system are maintained effectively by the built-in regeneration process and therefore do not require regular replacement.

It is best to let the salt empty until the water is visible.
Then refill and ideally not full to the brim so that there is not too much weight on the salt.

If you keep filling the container without waiting until you see the water at the bottom, clumps can occur.

Installing a water softening system requires a certain level of technical understanding and craftsmanship. Installation typically involves installing a bypass valve and connecting to a sewer for regeneration cycles. Special tools and materials are required for installation. This includes pipe cutters, wrenches, Teflon tape and, if necessary, additional pipe fittings and connecting parts.

This is a complex topic that is controversially discussed on the Internet. The first thing that should be mentioned is that these days mainly plastic pipes are used and no corrosion is to be expected.

When water is softened using ion exchange, no CO2 is released and the pH value of the water is not changed. This would look different if the water was treated using reverse osmosis, for example.

It is known that copper pipes are subject to a certain degree of corrosion regardless of the quality of drinking water. However, this corrosion is usually so low that copper is considered a durable material. The low corrosion rate of copper in drinking water results from the formation of a coating on the surface of the material consisting of various copper compounds. This layer is reinforced by small amounts of embedded lime, which increases its anti-corrosion effect. In softened water, this limescale deposit is missing, which can reduce the protective function of the top layer. Nevertheless, the protective effect is sufficiently strong to generally prevent corrosion damage over human generations.

In summary, there is no absolute freedom from corrosion in copper pipes in drinking water systems. Although water softening has an influence on the protective top layer in the pipes, it only has a negligible impact on their service life. If you had problems with corrosion before installing a softening system, then you should think about installing a dosing system or replacing the pipes.

No, the water does not taste salty after softening. Your water does not come into direct contact with the salt. This is used exclusively to regenerate/clean the system.

The salt should always only be refilled when the water is already easily visible in the container.
Salt consumption depends on water consumption and water hardness.

Example: A duplex system with a capacity of 1000 m³ x °dH consumes 30 kg of salt per regeneration. The salt container holds 500 kg. Depending on water consumption, you will need to refill 20 bags of salt approximately every 4 weeks.

Yes, the devices in the Aquada series meet the technical specifications, but the manufacturer has not presented them for certification by the DVGW. This is only the case with devices in the Spektron series. These are DVGW certified.

If you would like to use a system from the Aquada series, you must first clarify with your responsible authority (health department) whether the use of such a device is recognized.

The disinfection of cloudy water with a UV disinfection system, such as the Spektron UV system with DVGW certification, may be limited. Here are some points to consider:

  • Effectiveness in case of turbidity: The effectiveness of UV disinfection depends heavily on the clarity of the water. Cloudy water can absorb or scatter UV rays, making them less effective at inactivating microorganisms. Particles in water can "hide" microorganisms, meaning they are not exposed to the full intensity of UV radiation.

  • Pre-filtration recommended: For effective UV disinfection of cloudy water, pre-filtration is usually recommended to reduce turbidity. By removing particles and suspended matter in the water, UV radiation can work more efficiently.

  • Checking water quality: Before using a UV disinfection system, water quality, including turbidity, should be checked.

  • Regular Maintenance: To ensure effective disinfection, it is important to regularly maintain and clean the UV lamp and quartz housing, as deposits on these parts can also affect UV transmission.

  • In summary, although it is possible to disinfect cloudy water with a UV system, it may be necessary to perform additional steps such as pre-filtration to ensure the effectiveness of the disinfection. We would be happy to create an individual offer for you.

    Reverse osmosis systems

Product: REOS Compact reverse osmosis system

    0 upvotes 1 answers
    Answer:
    0

The REOS Compact reverse osmosis system is primarily designed for the treatment of relatively clean, pre-filtered drinking water. While it is excellent at removing impurities, pollutants and microorganisms from water to produce pure drinking water, its suitability for producing drinking water directly from a body of water such as a river depends on various factors.

For the direct treatment of river water into drinking water, preparatory steps are usually necessary to remove coarse impurities and particles before the water is passed through a reverse osmosis system. This includes pre-filtration to remove sediment, suspended solids and possible larger organic materials that could damage or clog the reverse osmosis system membranes.

Furthermore, the process of reverse osmosis can also lead to a reduced pH value, making the water slightly acidic. This is because reverse osmosis systems not only remove impurities, but also minerals that give the water flavor and contribute to pH balance. In some cases, it is therefore necessary to post-treat the osmosis-treated water to increase the pH and add minerals back in so that it meets drinking water standards and preferences.

    Private customers (single-family home)

For private customers, an on-site inspection is not necessary in most cases. Thanks to our many years of experience, we can use a few details from you to quickly assess whether and at what cost we can install the system for you, or what system you need. The best way to do this is to take a few photos with your smartphone . The photos and the travel costs saved create a cost advantage for us and therefore for you too.

    Multi-family houses and property management

Even in apartment buildings, the house installations are usually designed in such a way that the installation of a water treatment system is possible without any problems. In order to estimate the costs, a photo of the installation on site is often sufficient. If you would still like to view the site, please contact us.

    Commercial customers (B2B)

For commercial projects, the question of a viewing depends on the type of project. Here, it must be considered on a case-by-case basis whether a viewing makes sense. Please contact us, we will be happy to advise you.

    Germany-wide assembly service

We offer a Germany-wide assembly service for our water treatment systems. For many systems, you can order this service at a fixed price. For larger projects or special cases, assembly is charged according to the effort involved. We would be happy to provide you with a quote for this.

    Who does your assembly?

Our fitters are part of our own factory customer service and work from four locations. They travel throughout Germany. The advantage of this is that you save a lot of money, as our systems are not sold to third parties and our fitters are trained specifically for you and our systems. In addition, you only have Alfiltra as your contact, who will take care of all your requests or problems. Because the systems are installed every day, our fitters are familiar with all installation locations and conversions.

Is there an on-site inspection beforehand?

In most cases, an on-site inspection is not necessary. However, to protect both sides from any disagreements, we recommend that you take a few pictures of the installation site with your smartphone or camera. You can find out exactly what should be included in the pictures in our article:

Pictures-What should be shown in the pictures?

If we cannot identify anything from the pictures, we will include you in an existing tour in your area, although this can mean a waiting time of 4-8 weeks depending on where you live. Viewings are special cases, however, and hardly ever occur thanks to the trained eyes of our fitters.

99% of all further questions can be answered by phone, email or through our Help Center .

Alternatively, we can send you your system, which will be installed by an installer of your choice.

The delivery times for individual products can be found on our online shop at www.alfiltra.de for each item.

We generally keep all common products in stock, so that shipping can be guaranteed within 1-2 days. We build large industrial plants to order. Therefore, the delivery time for these plants is extended by about a week. For orders with delivery to Austria, please add 1 to 2 additional working days. Orders to Switzerland require 4 to 5 additional working days due to customs clearance.

Depending on the product type, shipping is handled by DHL Parcel or DHL Freight (forwarding company). Delivery times for parcels are usually 1 - 2 working days. For forwarding company shipping, delivery usually takes 2 - 5 working days.

    Assembly

For items that require assembly (for example, water softeners in a worry-free package), the delivery time depends on our assembly planning. For this purpose, we have created a map with different zones and the corresponding waiting times for assembly for our Germany-wide assembly service. The times given are guidelines, which can be shorter or, in exceptional cases, longer.

Since we have our own factory customer service with our own fitters, we are dependent on dividing our assembly planning into tours. This brings an enormous cost advantage, which we are happy to pass on to our customers. The disadvantage is that the waiting times may be a little longer. However, we endeavour to keep the waiting times as short as possible.
