Frequently asked questions
Water softening systems
Product: BASIC water softener
The resin cartridges in your Basic 40 softening system generally do not need to be replaced because they regenerate themselves. The regeneration of the resin is an automated process that takes place during the cleaning cycles of the system. Here are some details:
Regeneration process: During regeneration, the resin is flushed with a salt solution, which dissolves and removes the accumulated calcium and magnesium ions (which are responsible for water hardness) from the resin. This “renews” the resin and can be used effectively to soften water again.
Regular cleaning: This regeneration is carried out regularly, depending on the amount of water used and the hardness of the water. In a 4-person household with a water hardness of 20° dH, the system will regenerate more frequently to ensure efficiency.
No replacement necessary: As long as the system is properly maintained and the regenerating salt is topped up regularly, the resin cartridges do not need to be replaced. However, you should regularly inspect and maintain the system to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.
In summary, the resin cartridges in your Basic 40 system are maintained effectively by the built-in regeneration process and therefore do not require regular replacement.

It is best to let the salt empty until the water is visible.
Then refill and ideally not full to the brim so that there is not too much weight on the salt.
If you keep filling the container without waiting until you see the water at the bottom, clumps can occur.

According to the DIN standard, maintenance should be carried out by a specialist at least every 12 months to ensure optimal function and safety of the system.
However, our water softening systems are designed to be so reliable that many customers carry out regular checks themselves. As long as the system is working properly and no problems occur, there are no legal requirements that make maintenance mandatory. Nevertheless, we recommend checking the system regularly and calling in a specialist if necessary to ensure long-term safety and efficiency.

Installing a water softening system requires a certain level of technical understanding and craftsmanship. Installation typically involves installing a bypass valve and connecting to a sewer for regeneration cycles. Special tools and materials are required for installation. This includes pipe cutters, wrenches, Teflon tape and, if necessary, additional pipe fittings and connecting parts.

Product: ZIP countertop reverse osmosis system / water filter system
Product: REOS Plug & Play reverse osmosis system with water softener
Product: REOS HOME under-counter reverse osmosis system
Here you have to distinguish between two operating modes:
- Standby mode : The tank is full and no water is being drawn off. In this case, the system does not make any noise.
- Treatment mode : Water has been drawn off or the tank is being initially filled. In this case, the pump starts to increase efficiency. When the pump is running, the noise level of the system is less than 40 decibels (assuming it is in a closed cabinet), which is about the volume of a quiet conversation or quiet background noise in a library. This makes it ideal for use in kitchens, offices or practices where peace and quiet and a disturbance-free environment are important. The pump switches off immediately when the tank has been refilled (within a few minutes).
Product: REOS HOME under-counter reverse osmosis system
The REOS HOME system is primarily designed for the filtration of tap water. Here are the details of the different types of water that can be filtered:
Tap water: The system is ideal for filtering municipal tap water. It effectively removes contaminants such as chlorine, heavy metals, uranium, calcium, sodium, nitrate, medical residues and microorganisms up to 99%.
Well water: The system can also filter well water, provided it meets the basic requirements for raw water for reverse osmosis systems. Well water can contain varying amounts of sediment and contaminants, so it is important to test the water quality before installation. A coarser pre-filter and in some cases an iron filter may be necessary before the system.
Rainwater: With appropriate pre-filtration, the system can also filter rainwater. However, it is recommended that the water is first pre-treated using sediment and carbon filters to remove larger particles and organic contaminants. Please note, however, that with rainwater, the filter replacement intervals can vary greatly (depending on the level of contamination).
Spring water: The system can also be used to filter spring water if the water is first tested for gross impurities and pretreated if necessary.
For all of the water types mentioned, it is important to ensure that the water quality meets the requirements of the reverse osmosis system to ensure optimal performance and service life of the filters. If there is any uncertainty about the water quality, a water analysis should be carried out and additional pre-filters installed if necessary.

Filtering Parasites: Countertop reverse osmosis systems are extremely effective at removing a variety of contaminants, including parasites. Reverse osmosis uses a semi-permeable membrane that is so fine that it can remove almost all dissolved solids from water, including microorganisms such as parasites. Parasites such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia that may be present in drinking water sources are effectively filtered out by this membrane, ensuring safe and healthy water quality.
Water treatment process: In a table-top reverse osmosis system, the water goes through several stages of treatment. The process typically includes the following steps:
- Pre-filtration: Removes larger particles such as sand, rust and other sediments.
- Activated carbon filter: Removes chlorine, bad smells and tastes as well as organic compounds.
- Reverse osmosis membrane: This is the core of the system. The membrane removes up to 99% of all dissolved solids, including salts, bacteria and viruses, heavy metals and even parasites.
- Remineralization: Perfect for improving taste and balancing pH.
In summary, a countertop reverse osmosis system provides a comprehensive solution for clean, safe and great-tasting water by effectively removing a wide range of contaminants, including parasites.

Product: REOS Plug & Play reverse osmosis system with water softener
This depends on the respective model. Here are a few calculations (under optimal conditions):
The model with an output of 150 l / h needs almost 7 hours for 1 m³ of water with a power consumption of 0.5 kW. This corresponds to approximately 3.6 kWh per m³.
The model with 300 l / h output therefore needs approx. 3.5 h for 1 m³ of water with a power consumption of 0.65 kW. This corresponds to approximately 2.16 kWh per m³.
The model with 600 l / h output, on the other hand, needs less than 2 hours for 1 m³ of water with a power consumption of 2.2 kW. This corresponds to approximately 3.6 kW per m³.

disinfection systems
Product: Aquada Altima UV disinfection system
There are important guidelines to follow when using UV disinfection systems for drinking water treatment in Germany. According to a statement from the Federal Health Office, only type-tested systems should be used for drinking water applications and it is recommended that a sensor should be available to display the irradiance.
The systems in the Aquada series from WEDECO, which also includes the Altima, meet the technical requirements, but are not certified by the DVGW (German Gas and Water Association). In contrast, the devices in the Spektron series from WEDECO are DVGW certified. If you want to use a system from the Aquada series in your household, you should therefore coordinate in advance with the responsible authority, such as the health department, to ensure that the use of the device is recognized.
In addition, the Federal Health Office points out that UV irradiation alone does not ensure disinfection of the distribution system (such as water pipes). If there is existing contamination in the pipe network or house installation, disinfection with chlorine is necessary. In this context, we recommend flushing the pipes with our Baxero product to ensure that the pipes are germ-free. This flushing can be repeated annually if necessary to ensure consistently high water quality.
Product: Spektron UV disinfection system with DVGW for drinking water
The disinfection of cloudy water with a UV disinfection system, such as the Spektron UV system with DVGW certification, may be limited. Here are some points to consider:
Effectiveness in case of turbidity: The effectiveness of UV disinfection depends heavily on the clarity of the water. Cloudy water can absorb or scatter UV rays, making them less effective at inactivating microorganisms. Particles in water can "hide" microorganisms, meaning they are not exposed to the full intensity of UV radiation.
Pre-filtration recommended: For effective UV disinfection of cloudy water, pre-filtration is usually recommended to reduce turbidity. By removing particles and suspended matter in the water, UV radiation can work more efficiently.
Checking water quality: Before using a UV disinfection system, water quality, including turbidity, should be checked.
Regular Maintenance: To ensure effective disinfection, it is important to regularly maintain and clean the UV lamp and quartz housing, as deposits on these parts can also affect UV transmission.
In summary, although it is possible to disinfect cloudy water with a UV system, it may be necessary to perform additional steps such as pre-filtration to ensure the effectiveness of the disinfection. We would be happy to create an individual offer for you.

filter systems
Product: PENTA multi-filter system
We would be happy to make you a suitable offer.
Product: PENTA multi-filter system
The resin in this filter system is designed for a pH range of 5 to 9, meaning it should work even at a pH of 6, where the water is slightly acidic.
However, you should note that although the resin can work in this pH range, slightly acidic water (pH 6) is not ideal for use as drinking water. In the long term, acidic water can cause corrosion in pipes and affect the taste of the water.
If you plan to use the filtered water as drinking water, it is recommended to also install a deacidification system. Such a system can increase the pH of the water and make it more neutral, which is not only beneficial for iron filtration but also improves the quality of drinking water and protects your plumbing.

Product: Salt tablets for water softeners and ion exchangers 5x 25 kg bags
The softening salt commonly used in water softening systems is generally not ideal for salt electrolysis systems for chlorine production in swimming pools. Here are the main reasons:
Degree of purity: Salt for pool electrolysis systems must have a very high degree of purity, often over 99%. Softener salt may contain impurities that are not a problem for water softening systems (as they are flushed out), but can cause problems in an electrolysis system.
Solubility and additives: Softener salt may contain additives that could affect the function of electrolytic cells or cause deposits in your pool. Salt for pool electrolysis systems is specially designed to dissolve quickly and without leaving any residue.
Effects on Pool Equipment: Using the wrong salt can cause damage to the electrolytic cell and other pool components, which can result in expensive repairs or replacement.
For these reasons, it is recommended to use salt specifically designed for pool electrolysis systems. This is tailored to the requirements and specifications of such systems and ensures that your pool system functions efficiently and without damage. If in doubt, you should follow the recommendations of the manufacturer of your pool electrolysis system.

About Us
We offer a Germany-wide assembly service for our water treatment systems. For many systems, you can order this service at a fixed price. For larger projects or special cases, assembly is charged according to the effort involved. We would be happy to provide you with a quote for this.
Who does your assembly? Our fitters are part of our own factory customer service and work from four locations. They travel throughout Germany. The advantage of this is that you save a lot of money, as our systems are not sold to third parties and our fitters are trained specifically for you and our systems. In addition, you only have Alfiltra as your contact, who will take care of all your requests or problems. Because the systems are installed every day, our fitters are familiar with all installation locations and conversions.
Is there an on-site inspection beforehand? In most cases, an on-site inspection is not necessary. However, to protect both sides from any disagreements, we recommend that you take a few pictures of the installation site with your smartphone or camera. You can find out exactly what should be included in the pictures in our article:
Pictures-What should be shown in the pictures?
If we cannot identify anything from the pictures, we will include you in an existing tour in your area, although this can mean a waiting time of 4-8 weeks depending on where you live. Viewings are special cases, however, and hardly ever occur thanks to the trained eyes of our fitters.
99% of all further questions can be answered by phone, email or through our Help Center .
Alternatively, we can send you your system, which will be installed by an installer of your choice.
For private customers, an on-site inspection is not necessary in most cases. Thanks to our many years of experience, we can use a few details from you to quickly assess whether and at what cost we can install the system for you, or what system you need. The best way to do this is to take a few photos with your smartphone . The photos and the travel costs saved create a cost advantage for us and therefore for you too.
Multi-family houses and property managementEven in apartment buildings, the house installations are usually designed in such a way that the installation of a water treatment system is possible without any problems. In order to estimate the costs, a photo of the installation on site is often sufficient. If you would still like to view the site, please contact us.
Commercial customers (B2B)For commercial projects, the question of a viewing depends on the type of project. Here, it must be considered on a case-by-case basis whether a viewing makes sense. Please contact us, we will be happy to advise you.
If you have any concerns about whether we really do a good job, you can access fake-proof testimonials at the following link:

The delivery times for individual products can be found on our online shop at www.alfiltra.de for each item.
We generally keep all common products in stock, so that shipping can be guaranteed within 1-2 days. We build large industrial plants to order. Therefore, the delivery time for these plants is extended by about a week. For orders with delivery to Austria, please add 1 to 2 additional working days. Orders to Switzerland require 4 to 5 additional working days due to customs clearance.
Depending on the product type, shipping is handled by DHL Parcel or DHL Freight (forwarding company). Delivery times for parcels are usually 1 - 2 working days. For forwarding company shipping, delivery usually takes 2 - 5 working days.
AssemblyFor items that require assembly (for example, water softeners in a worry-free package), the delivery time depends on our assembly planning. For this purpose, we have created a map with different zones and the corresponding waiting times for assembly for our Germany-wide assembly service. The times given are guidelines, which can be shorter or, in exceptional cases, longer.
Since we have our own factory customer service with our own fitters, we are dependent on dividing our assembly planning into tours. This brings an enormous cost advantage, which we are happy to pass on to our customers. The disadvantage is that the waiting times may be a little longer. However, we endeavour to keep the waiting times as short as possible.
