Remove nitrate from your drinking water

Nitrate filters work in a similar way to our water softening systems . The ion exchange process removes nitrate from the water and exchanges it for sodium. This neutral exchange process does not change the pH value of the water.

Nitrate filters are required when the nitrate content of the water exceeds 50 mg/l. High nitrate levels are bad for the soil and health alike. Nitrate is life-threatening, especially for infants, because the body cannot break it down.

Since increased nitrate levels are mainly caused by over-fertilization, nitrate surpluses occur primarily in rural areas.

How do I find out my nitrate level?

If you get your drinking water from the public pipe network, you can ask your supplier what the nitrate level is in your area. As a rule, the water that comes from our pipes as drinking water must comply with the drinking water regulations. If this is the case, then you don't have to worry about the nitrate levels in your water. However, it can happen that the limit cannot be met. The second option is: you get your drinking water from your own well and therefore have to comply with and monitor the limit values yourself.

In both cases, we recommend that you first have a water analysis done. During the water analysis, all relevant values are measured and compared with the limit values in your test report. This allows you to immediately see which values are too high for you (not just nitrate).

What to do if the water hardness is also high?

Our nitrate filter systems can reliably filter nitrate from the water. However, if the water also has a very high water hardness, we recommend that you also install a water softener . This will extend the life of your NO3 system and also make it work more efficiently.
