The new Drinking Water Ordinance also obliges owners of rented apartments to test or have their drinking water tested for legionella every three years. Single and two-family homes, as well as drinking water systems with instantaneous water heaters, are excluded.

You have been reading or hearing a lot about Legionella in drinking water for some time now. But the question arises, what is legionella and how can you harm one?

Legionella are bacteria that appear in water. They reproduce best at 25-50°C. These bacteria are harmless to the skin, but if the bacteria get into the lungs, they can cause pneumonia. In individual cases these can be fatal.

For their own safety, owners of rented apartments are now required to have their water tested at least every three years.
