... is a substance that is created from bromide when bromine and ozone dissolved in pure water are processed. Therefore, it is not a natural substance that occurs particularly frequently in nature.
Health consequences
The substance is suspected of causing cancer in humans and animals. Animal experiments have shown this. It is not completely clear whether bromate only promotes cancer when combined with other substances or causes cancer on its own.
However, researchers agree that the substance causes damage to human kidneys.
Legal limits
According to the WHO, EU and German drinking water regulations, the value of the maximum proportion is 0.01 mg/l.
