Iodide

Iodide is the inorganic form of iodine, where iodine exists as a negatively charged ion (I⁻). It occurs naturally in various water sources, especially in areas with high levels of iodine compounds in soil or seawater. Iodide is also often used in the form of iodized salt in households and may be present in drinking water in low concentrations. However, in higher concentrations, iodide can be harmful to health and affect the balance of thyroid hormones.

In water treatment, iodide can be removed by several processes, including reverse osmosis . This process uses a semi-permeable membrane that effectively removes iodide and other dissolved substances from the water, thereby improving water quality.
