Where can I get regeneration salt?

Of course, you can buy the salt directly from our shop. This way you can have it delivered to your home easily and conveniently (to the curb).

Salt for water softeners is also available in almost every local hardware store. The salt should be of consistently high quality in accordance with EN 973A (DIN 19604) and ISO 9001:2000.

What properties should the salt have?

  • Pay attention to the correct name, such as: high-quality regeneration salt for ion exchange systems / decalcification systems / water softening systems
  • Manufacturers include CLARAMAT® (or equivalent)
  • The salt should have consistent top quality according to EN 973A (DIN 19604) according to ISO 9001:2000

How often should the salt be refilled?

This depends on various factors:

- The salt consumption of the water softener
- Your water consumption
- your water hardness

Calculation example

For a single-family home with 4 people and a water hardness of 20 °dH, you need to refill the salt approximately every 8 weeks

Please note

You should always refill the salt when you see water in the salt container and not earlier, otherwise clumping may occur

How do I refill the salt when it is empty?

A distinction is made between basic and duplex systems.
For basic systems, the blue cover is removed and the octagonal cover underneath.
In duplex systems, the blue lid of the salt container is removed.

The salt is filled into the large opening as shown.

Yes that works. However, it is a little more difficult to fill because the tablets are quite large and usually just fit through the opening.

The softening salt commonly used in water softening systems is generally not ideal for salt electrolysis systems for chlorine production in swimming pools. Here are the main reasons:

  • Degree of purity: Salt for pool electrolysis systems must have a very high degree of purity, often over 99%. Softener salt may contain impurities that are not a problem for water softening systems (as they are flushed out), but can cause problems in an electrolysis system.

  • Solubility and additives: Softener salt may contain additives that could affect the function of electrolytic cells or cause deposits in your pool. Salt for pool electrolysis systems is specially designed to dissolve quickly and without leaving any residue.

  • Effects on Pool Equipment: Using the wrong salt can cause damage to the electrolytic cell and other pool components, which can result in expensive repairs or replacement.

  • For these reasons, it is recommended to use salt specifically designed for pool electrolysis systems. This is tailored to the requirements and specifications of such systems and ensures that your pool system functions efficiently and without damage. If in doubt, you should follow the recommendations of the manufacturer of your pool electrolysis system.
