Owners must measure legionella levels in drinking water

The new drinking water regulations also require owners of rented apartments to test their drinking water for legionella every three years or to have it tested. This does not apply to single-family and two-family houses, as well as drinking water systems with instantaneous water heaters.

For some time now, we have been reading and hearing a lot about Legionella in drinking water. But this raises the question: what are Legionella and how can they harm you?

Legionella are bacteria that appear in water. They multiply best at 25-50°C. These bacteria are harmless to the skin, but if they get into the lungs, they can cause pneumonia. In individual cases, this can be fatal.

For their own safety, owners of rented apartments are now also required to have the water tested at least every three years.
